Singapore is First Export Country for Persona

Singapore, 04 October 2007Persona, PROTON’s pride and joy, made its debut in the export market today by crossing the causeway to Singapore.

Singapore is one traditional export market in which an average of a thousand PROTON cars have been sold annually in the last three years and it is apt that the republic is the first export market for PROTON’s fifth locally fully built car.

“We are excited in introducing our current ‘star’ in PROTON’s stable to this market, which has lots of similarities with our domestic market. We are therefore confident that the Persona will be the right car for the right market at the right price even in Singapore,” said PROTON Holdings Bhd Chairman Dato’ Mohammed Azlan Hashim at the launch in Singapore.

“Just as the Persona has created excitement with its stylish yet practical exterior and interior, we are confident that it will drive into the hearts of many in Singapore. I am sure its aerodynamic and advanced styling enhanced by the elegant face design with exquisite front grille as well as stylish rear end and tail design will turn heads on the roads in Singapore.”

PROTON has had a presence in Singapore since 1989, through an independent multi-franchise operator. Subsequently, PROTON Cars Singapore was set up in 2003 to further improve operations and service level for its customers.

Priced from SGD$51,988, the Persona is available in manual and automatic versions and comes Anti-locking Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Driver and Passenger airbags and with pre-tensioner seatbelts meeting the stringent European Safety standards. The PERSONA comes in seven colours, namely iridescent white, metal gray, tranquility black, solid red, light gold, blueberry tea and solid white.

Powered by the improved 1.6 Campro engine, the Persona holds promise of smooth drivability and ride comfort. It also boasts of fuel economy that is very competitive in the 1600 cc segment. It is an affordable city car providing effortless driving.

“We are optimistic of the Persona’s performance in this market. The introduction of the Persona in Singapore will also offer the customers more options with regard to high quality cars at competitive prices. PROTON will continue to improve our product quality and make every effort in introducing more new models to the market,” said Mohammed Azlan.

In conjunction with the launch, the first 30 buyers of the Persona will get the opportunity to attend a drive-away holiday to Malaysia and visit PROTON city in Tanjung Malim, Perak, Malaysia.
