Proton Drives into Indonesia
Jakarta, 16 March, 2007 - Malaysian car manufacturer PROTON today officially launched its entry into Indonesia's promising passenger car market with the introduction of its two models - the Gen.2 and Savvy. Tomorrow, PROTON will officially open its one-stop sales and after-sales services centre, as well as two other dealer showrooms in Jakarta.
The auspicious launch event was launched by Malaysia's Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz. The event was also attended by respective government officers from both Malaysia and Indonesia.
"Today marks another milestone in the journey of PROTON. It’s a continued phase in our development and expansion strategy; one which we believe will establish a platform for the brand to expand further into new territories with great dynamism and impact," said Dato' Mohammed Azlan Hashim, Chairman of PROTON Holdings Berhad.
PROTON's sales and after-sales service operations in Indonesia will be managed through its subsidiary, PT Proton Edar Indonesia.
"We are committed to this market and the decision to enter Indonesia is one that is grounded on the principle that it is our responsibility to uphold Malaysia's good name and reputation in Indonesia, among our friends, neighbours, brothers and sisters. Malaysia and Indonesia have always enjoyed extremely good relations at all levels, and we fully intend to maintain and enhance it." added Mohammed Azlan, who is also the Chairman to the Board of Commissioner of PT Proton Edar Indonesia.
With this launch, PROTON now offers its two models, the Gen.2 1.6-litre sporty hatchback and the Savvy 1.2-litre fun-to-drive city car.
The Proton Savvy, priced from Rp95.0 million, will be available in both manual and automated-manual transmissions. On the other hand, the Proton Gen.2, priced from Rp130.0 million, will also be made available in both manual and automatic transmission.
"Based on a thorough market study that was conducted in 2006, we believe that the Gen.2 and Savvy will ease our entry into the Indonesian market as these two models are well engineered and competitively priced to fulfill the needs and requirements of its respective customer segments."
Proton cars have been continuously recognized for their superior driving characteristics, a result of the ride and handling technology engineered by its subsidiary company, Lotus.
"Proton cars are known for their superior driving characteristics, thanks to the ride and handling technology that we are able to harness from our subsidiary, Lotus. It is an attribute that is highly appreciated by our customers in Malaysia, and other export markets. We believe, that coupled with innovative styling and features that fulfill market requirements, these models will also be well received in Indonesia and help 'drive' our brand in the local automotive market here. That is the foundation on which we embark on the "DRIVE | PROTON" campaign.
The definition of "DRIVE | PROTON" is very simple - it will be the 'driving' force behind the PROTON business in Indonesia. At the business level DRIVE becomes a powerful internal communications vehicle uniting the PROTON team in a single vision. DRIVE means we will never stand still. We will focus our efforts to satisfy our customers and ensure that gaining the customers' confidence is our utmost priority. Driving our campaign, will be 2 of PROTON's latest models - the extremely fuel efficient Proton Savvy for the small city car segment which incorporates the Lotus- engineered ride and handling characteristics, and the very stylish Proton GEN.2 which clearly oozes Lotus DNA, both in its styling and ride and handling characteristics. Both vehicles deliver a comfortable, yet exhilarating ride."
